Tallinn Airport served 298,000 passengers in April, the highest-ever recorded for that month. The number of passengers increased by 28% compared to April last year. The main reason for this growth were the additional flight options. Compared to last year, airlines added 33% more seats to the market through new routes and additional flights. The spring school holidays contributed to increased demand.
Transavia France, a French low-cost airline, started operating flights to Tallinn in April, but additional capacity was offered by almost all airlines. Compared to last year, the most flights have been added to Stockholm, Helsinki, Berlin, Antalya, Oslo, Istanbul and London. In April, regular flights from Tallinn were available to 35 destinations. Ryanair, airBaltic and SAS brought the most passengers among the airlines.
The forthcoming summer season routes to Rhodes (airBaltic), Billund and Rome (Ryanair) were reopened. New routes to Prague (Eurowings) and Paris Orly airport (Transavia France) have also launched successfully. The biggest carriers in April were airBaltic with 22% and Ryanair with 20% of passengers.
According to Eero Pärgmäe, a member of the Management Board of Tallinn Airport AS, passenger numbers for the first four months of 2024 are satisfactory. “While the busiest weeks for air traffic are usually in the peak summer season, the last week of April saw passenger numbers surpass the all-time weekly record,” said Pärgmäe. “The school holiday helped us reach this record-breaking figure. We are very pleased that demand is still strong and we are very grateful to our hardworking employees, for whom the peak season started out much earlier and more intensely this year.”
Direct flights to Billund, Burgas, Malta, Dubrovnik, Split and Heraklion will be available in May. In August, airBaltic will add direct flights to Palma de Mallorca, while flydubai will begin operating direct flights to Dubai in October. Tickets are already on sale. For the forthcoming summer season (31 March – 27 October), Tallinn Airport will offer direct flights to more than 50 destinations.
