Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool face an anxious wait to discover the extent of Mohamed Salah’s injury after he was hurt playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 31-year-old forward had to be substituted just before the break in Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Ghana after complaining of discomfort in his hamstring.
Klopp said: “We don’t know anything. I spoke with him last night. They are doing further assessments and then we will know more.
“In the moment it was a shock. He felt it and we all know how rarely Mo needs to go off so there was definitely something. I don’t have any more information right now.”
Asked if Liverpool would send medical staff to the tournament to provide assistance, Klopp added: “We will see. It depends on what the diagnosis is.
“They do will an ultrasound and an MRI and then we will know what it is and what Egypt plans. It’s too early.”
Egypt boss Rui Vitoria said at full time: “We don’t know yet what the problem is. I hope it’s not a big problem.
“It was difficult timing for us because in the second half we could only make two substitutions. I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see.”
Liverpool return to Premier League action at Bournemouth on Sunday with Klopp not expecting to welcome anyone back from injury. The trip to the south coast will come too soon for Dominik Szoboszlai, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas remain sidelined.
“They’re all positive but not ready. They’re all going in the right direction and getting closer and closer and closer and some of them might be in team training next week but for the Bournemouth game I don’t expect anyone back. I hope that nobody will be out until then. After Bournemouth, maybe for Fulham we will see how the boys do, but they are all close. Trent close, Dom close, Robbo close. They are all going in the right direction but for this weekend’s game, no.”
