GREEN BAY – The Packers bolstered their depth on the offensive line by selecting Arizona tackle Jordan Morgan with the No. 25 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Morgan (6-5, 311) started 37 games at left tackle in his college career, including 33 in the last three seasons. He made an impressive recovery from a torn ACL toward the end of the 2022 season to start 12 games at left tackle in 2023 and earn first-team All-Pac-12 Conference honors.
Last season, he allowed just two sacks in 787 snaps, according to the school’s statistics. A standout athlete, he clocked a 5.04-second 40-yard dash at 311 pounds at the scouting combine, along with a 28-inch vertical jump.
Draft analysts project Morgan to have the ability to play tackle or guard in the NFL.
For the Packers, he could compete with Rasheed Walker at left tackle or possibly with Sean Rhyan at right guard for a starting spot as a rookie. That is to be determined.
Having lost David Bakhtiari, Jon Runyan and Yosh Nijman from the offensive line during this offseason, selecting a first-round offensive tackle is by no means a surprise for Green Bay. That said, he’s the first offensive lineman the Packers have drafted in the first round since Derek Sherrod in 2011.
