Abercrombie’s latest move to put the brand back on your radar is its new NFL collection. These super soft sweatshirts and tees are leagues ahead of the, frankly, ugly pro football gear you’re used to. We tested out the retro-inspired gear, and it’s way more wearable than a baggy football jersey. It’s designed to look almost like vintage collector’s items, so they feel more stylish, too.

The collaboration has something for everyone, even a tongue-in-cheek T-shirt that simply reads “I JUST BOTH TEAMS HAVE FUN,” and children’s sizes from Abercrombie Kids. And don’t worry if you don’t see your team repped below — Abercrombie has unique designs for all 32 teams.

“Oversized sweatshirts are to football season as floral dresses are to spring — as in, everyone needs a good one. I’m obsessed with the way this one fits and I’m actually really impressed by the quality and softness. In terms of sizing, it definitely runs big. I usually wear a large or XL when I want something to feel oversized, but the medium ended up fitting me the best with plenty of slouch to spare. As for the Jets, I’m more of a college football gal myself but I’m repping them on behalf of my poor father-in-law who has been cursed to a life of Jets fandom. You’ll get ’em someday, John!”— Sally Kaplan, executive editor

“I love all things vintage, from cars to clothes and shoes. But when it comes to sports-related clothing, the biggest factor that has kept me from collecting much of it is simply being able to find it. This new collection from Abercrombie is amazing because it’s easily accessible and features that vintage aesthetic that makes certain sportswear pieces so much more appealing. And you won’t have to worry about any of the gear being knockoffs like you do when thrifting for vintage — Abercrombie’s collection is officially licensed by the NFL.

As a New Jersey native, I went with the Giants Crewneck (yes, the NY Giants play in Jersey!). This sweatshirt is cool because it has a huge front graphic commemorating the team’s 2007 Championship win and a back graphic that’s equally as epic with a Super Bowl ring on it. In terms of sizing, this sweatshirt runs large. I went with a medium for an oversized, but could’ve comfortably fit a size small.” — Amir Ismael, style editor

For Dallas Cowboys Fans:

“I rarely find a sweater made of synthetic materials that compares to the softness of my favorite cashmere sweaters. With Abercrombie’s LuxeLoft yarn, however, the fabric is so fluffy and smooth it’s almost like it’s blended with silk. I love the lightweight feel of this knit V-neck and how it drapes effortlessly. I usually wear a size small, but sized up to a large so I can wear lots of layers underneath.

I admittedly cannot name a single player on the Dallas Cowboys. But I do root for the cowboys when I watch spaghetti Westerns, so you could say I’m a fan of cowboys in the most literal sense.

It’s no secret that more women than ever are tuning in every Sunday to witness Taylor Swift support Travis Kelce. I can see Abercrombie’s NFL collection becoming popular with Swifties who want to rep their idol’s favorite team.” — Gabrielle Chase, associate style editor

“Growing up in Gainesville, Florida, I always rooted for the Florida Gators and never for an NFL team. But the Jags were geographically my closest option, so I’ve been a fair-weather fan for a while. I bought this T-shirt in a size large to give me an oversized fit so I could wear it with bike shorts or half-tucked into denim. It’s really soft and slouchy, and it comes in designs for 32 teams.” — Sally Kaplan, executive editor

For San Francisco 49ers Fans:

Sweatshirts are one of my favorite products from Abercrombie. I’ve consistently been impressed by how soft they are — and how they get even softer in the wash. The inside even feels like a fuzzy blanket.

But my favorite part about their sports-themed sweatshirts is the vintage flair that the brand brings to the graphics. I love how the NFL merchandise isn’t just the team’s logo slapped onto a plain sweatshirt. Instead, the brand uses old-timey branding from different eras of the team. The sweatshirts with odes to past Super Bowl wins are a perfect example of this.

Though I’m not a huge football fan, I went wild for their vintage Formula One merchandise, especially their McLaren collaboration last season. They have a current Red Bull Racing collection — and while I’m sure their sweatshirts are just as soft as my 49ers and McLaren gear, I can’t support Red Bull, sorry!” — Samantha Crozier, style editor

The bottom line

If your “lucky” jersey has yet to help your team win a championship, then perhaps it’s time to refresh your gear. Our team loved everything about the pieces from Abercrombie’s NFL collection, from the material quality to the stylish designs. It’s the perfect intersection for sports fans and vintage clothing enthusiasts.
