Hogwarts Legacy

WB

Hogwarts Legacy is very much not a live game, nor does it seem to be adding any significant paid DLC in the future. But, Portkey and WB have just announced a summer update coming next week on June 6 that adds some new odds and ends to the game, including one feature fans have wanted since launch. Here’s the list of what’s coming:

  • Photo Mode(!)
  • The ability to reset talent points
  • The Haunted Hogsmeade quest
  • The Glasses Who Live (Harry glasses)
  • Azkaban Prisoner outfit and coat
  • Felix Felicis Potion recipe
  • Lavender Borealis Broom
  • Onyx Hippogriff mount

So, it’s a good amount of stuff, even if the only “new” content is the Haunted Hogsmeade quest. And technically that is not new, that is the release of the PlayStation-exclusive quest the game launched with, which will now be available on all platforms. The same goes for the potion which was a pre-order exclusive. It marks the location of large loot chests on the minimap.

The most sought-after bit of the bunch here is the introduction of photo mode, a feature I believe all games should launch with, but many keep patching it in after the fact. The ability to reset talent points is also nice, but it’s not a full New Game Plus mode, another should-be-standard thing that all games should have, but Hogwarts Legacy does not.

Since its release, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 25 million copies and was the highest-selling game of 2023, beating out even Call of Duty in that year, which no non-Rockstar game ever does. But the future of the game remains unclear, as there has been no announced sequel, and Warner Bros. has openly wondered about what a live service Harry Potter game might look like, despite the huge success of Legacy being heavily based on it being a single player experience devoid of microtransactions.

Again, it does not seem like any significant DLC is coming for Hogwarts Legacy. It felt like Quidditch could have been added, but instead WB is making that its own separate multiplayer game that will no doubt actually be monetized, unlike Hogwarts Legacy itself.

I’m not sure if this stuff is enough to return to the game for, unless you just want to fool around in photo mode, but it’s nice that it’s something and it’s free, I suppose, and those PlayStation exclusive are widely available at last.
